- Dart SHP LS Next Pro Long Block - All Pro Heads, Callies Magnum 8-cwt,
Description:
This hydraulic roller long block is rated to 2,000 hp. We switch to a mechanical roller cam and Jesel shaft rocker system at anything over 2,000 crank horsepower, so that's a different long block. But let's focus on this one for now. Before getting into the details, let's hear what Cutaway Racing has to say about this bad boy which he dubbed "Peanut Butter & Jelly".
The Dart SHP LS Next line of engine blocks is the perfect middle ground for someone looking for a major improvement over a GM block, but wants the convenience of using OE-type oil pans and accessory drives. We use the SHP Pro version for its better metallurgy and main studs. The higher nickel content is a big-impact upgrade for a relatively low cost. The Pro blocks have the same metallurgy as the 1st generation Dart LS Next block and the same key features: longer cylinders than GM blocks, priority main oiling, stronger, solid main saddle, splayed main caps. Unlike the 1st Gen block however, the SHP and SHP Pro blocks have side skirts. This lets you bolt any GM pan directly on to the block and use a screw-on oil filter OR a remote filter from the side of the block - whichever you prefer.
We incorporate a couple of major upgrades as part of our precision CNC block machining process. The first is going from 7/16 to 1/2 inch head studs. This greatly increases clamping force on the heads. The second is machining the lifter bores to 0.904" from the stock dimension of 0.842". The larger lifters are far more reliable at this horsepower level.
The rotating assembly starts with a 4.000" stroke, Callies Magnum center counterweighted crankshaft paired with Ultra Enforcer connecting rods. Riding on the rods are 4.125" Diamond Race Series LS dish pistons. This combination yields a 427 cubic inch displacement.
On top are our BRE-machined All Pro Retro cylinder heads filled with the parts you need to push this engine to the limit. We start with raw castings so the ports, runners and combustion chamber are all custom. While we prefer LS7 ports, we can machine LS3 ports into the heads if that's what you need for your existing intake manifold. The port work does not change the valve angle which will remain at 12 degrees on the LS3 variant. The All Pro's are assembled with Inconel exhaust valves and Severe Duty Manley intake valves capable of holding up to a pile of boost and live a long life driving on the street.
Comp Cam's BSR shaft rockers provide valve train stability for the hydraulic roller valve train. This is a big help at higher rpm. Sticking with hydraulic rollers saves the pain of periodic valve lash adjustment required with a mechanical cam.
Some of the other key features of this long block are:
- Callico coated Clevite bearings
- Cometic MLX head gaskets
- Billet double chain timing set
- Manton pushrods with upgraded tips
We strive to keep the required components in stock and the lead times short. This is a long block used on a lot of our builds so it is often on the floor and available for immediate shipment.
The videos down below will give you additional information about the key parts (All Pro heads, Callies 8-cwt Magnum crank, Dart block and Mantono pushrods) as well as showing you why you'll want us doing the machining and assembly. We think you'll be as convinced as we are that this long block is best in class for this power range.
