Whipple Superchargers recently released their new 3.0L twin-screw supercharger. The completely new design offers higher boost and lower air inlet temperatures compared to its 2.9L predecessor. We liked what we heard and bought a lot of them. The first one on our dyno hit 1,206 hp and made more than 1,000 lb-ft of torque from 3,400 to 6,100 rpm. See this 427 cubic inch beast perform in the video below.
Others may try mounting one of these superchargers on a stock block designed for half the power we are making. Good luck! Our build recipe has been beefed up by upgrading the block to a Dart's SHP Pro LS Next block. It has higher nickel content and 30% more tensile strength than the Dart SHP block that is standard with the 2,9L build. It also comes standard with main studs instead of main bolts. The rotating assembly consists of a Callies Compstar center-counterweighted crank, Callies Compstar Extreme I -beam rods and Diamond Race Series pistons. Bottom Line - this is a short block that will last!
Our custom grind COMP hydraulic-roller cam core is made from nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel alloy for an incredibly hard and durable finish. The cam lobes are also micro polished to achieve the perfect surface finish. These cams look so good it's a shame they are buried in the center of the engine.
We believe that All Pros are the best cast heads on the market today. We machine raw castings on our 5-axis CNC to our own proprietary design for maximum performance. The hydraulic roller valve train is stabilized and strengthened by the Comp Cams BSR shaft rocker system.
The serpentine system is a critical performance part in a belt driven supercharged engine. This one is up to the task! It also boasts features like a 225 amp alternator and the option to mate with a HydraTech boost system for better braking. It is available in black, polished or diamond-cut.
This Plug-n-Play engine package comes standard with the Holley Terminator X Max engine management system. It features both transmission control and drive-by-wire capability. This self-learning system gets a head start by coming with the tune installed from your dyno session. No chassis dyno needed post-install. To solve all your vehicle instrumentation issues, you can also pair the Terminator X-Max up with a Holley Digital Dash.
Iron or Aluminum Block: All else being equal, iron is stronger, heavier and less heat conductive than aluminum. The Dart iron and aluminum blocks both have more than adequate strength for this application. The aluminum block is 100 lbs lighter and is better at heat removal. The weight reduction can significantly improve handling and braking in applications such as road racing and autocross.
Performance: You're not looking for transportation, but for serious competition. Available upgrades to consider would be a fully counter-weighted Callies Magnum crank and Ultra rods, our custom PTFE coated Diamond pistons, to name a few.
Finish: The supercharger, serpentine and valve covers come standard in black. All can be ordered polished. Have some other idea - gold dipped, custom paint, rose gold? Let us know. We done all these! Custom engraved valve covers? Sure, why not?
Oiling: This engine comes standard with a GM oil pan. A Holley retrofit oil pan is ideal for many restomods. Neither may be what you need. We will work with you to select the oil pan right for your vehicle so it leaves our shop drop-in ready for you. A serious upgrade would be to switch from wet to a dry sump oiling system. The Dailey dry sump sytems we use bring a host of benefits as outlined in this blog.
Transmission: The power of an engine like this puts a transmission to the test. Unfortunately, many will come up short. For that reason, we have worked with top transmission suppliers (Hughes Performance for automatics and Tremec for manuals) so that we can offer pairings that work. We designed this engine to be a cruiser, and for us that points to over-drive transmissions like our highly-modified Hughes 4L80e or Tremec T-56 six speed. If you can keep your right foot in check and don’t go crazy on the gear ratio in the rear end, you can pass everything on the road including the gas stations.
Engine Management: Our available FuelTech or Emtron engine management systems let provide a more robust wiring harness and feature rich system. The FuelTech ECU doubles as a display unit unlike the Holley system where the ECU and DIgital Dash are independent units.
Marine Applications: Marine applications must be upgraded from the Holley Terminator X-Max to our available FuelTech or Emtron engine management systems.

- These engines are not pollution compliant and are intended for transportation use only in pre-pollution controlled vehicles.
- All BRE engines are individually dyno tested and tuned. Customers will be supplied with video of their engine's dyno along with the dyno and build sheets.
- Price indicated is for the standard recipe build - black finish, serpentine system with choice of power steering pumps, Holley Terminator X-Max with tune.
- Dyno results on the same engine are influenced by atmospheric conditions. The same engine can easily test +/- 2% different on horsepower depending upon ambient conditions. The engine you receive will have completed its dyno session at no less than 98% of rated horsepower with the tune we provide.
- The dyno sheets are from the engine shown in the video which was equipped with a Dailey 5-Stage dry sump. This oiling system typically yields an additional 25 horsepower over a wet sump due to reduced parasitic losses.
